This is a very easy peasy recipe and very fun to make and also very tasty.
First preheat the oven at 400 degrees fahrenheit or 200 celsius. First you add all of the dry ingredients. Add 1 cup of all purpose unbleached flour, 1 cup of cornmeal, 3 pinches of baking powder, 1 pinch of pink salt. Add the wet ingredients on top of the dry. This saves time in the kitchen and less to cleanup. Add 1 egg, 1 quart or 1 liter of buttermilk and 2 tsp of corn oil. Stir and make a batter. When the batter is of the right consistency and lump free then you can add the halal chicken cracklin’s if you want halal cracklin’ bread. If you want just corn bread then don’t add to the batter. Oil or use cooking spray in a cake pan or better yet cast iron skillet and place it in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes. As you can see I stuck a fork in here. I did this to make sure it is done. It is almost like baking a cake. You can also use a toothpick it does the same thing. Just insert it and pull it out. You will know it is done if it came out clean. If it doesn’t let it cook for another 5 to 10 more minutes.
Enjoy with beans, greens, any dish that has meat and gravy and gumbos.
P.S. If you don’t have buttermilk, it is ok to make do with what you have. You can add either 1 liter or 1 quart of regular milk also known as sweet milk among African Americans or you can add 1/4 cup of nido and 1 quart or 1 liter of water as a substitute. Honestly buttermilk is just preferred. For instant pot and the like method: use the air frying lid select bake at 375F for 15 minutes. Repeat for another 15 minutes if fork or toothpick doesn’t come out clean.
