MMMM ok, this post Is about jasmine rice which ok you can say plain rice too, ok well you got the picture.
Take 2 cups of jasmine rice etc. and wash the rice until the water is clear and it should be in a big strainer. They sell them at Target, Walmart and a lot of other supermarkets. When the starch is gone then you can put it in a coldero and put cold water over the rice till it just covers the rice. Add 1 pinch of pink salt and 1 tsp of vegetable oil.
Turn your burner on high then use banana leaf or aluminum foil to cover the pot and place the lid after you bring the water to a rolling boil. Turn down the burner to low heat to simmer for 15 minutes but still keep an eye on it because you want to keep checking the water level and see how soft the rice is. This works for every type of rice even brown, red or even black but they take longer to cook and when you are cooking you must be patient.
That goes for me and I really have no patience unless I am cooking because my love for cooking makes me patient at this time. LOL plus my impatience is a legend in my family along with my stubbornness and my honesty as well as taking no crap off of anyone.
After 15 minutes is up or if you see the water absorbed at this point and the rice is still a little firm just turn off the stove at this point and cover again with foil or banana leaf plus the lid for 20 minutes then the rice will be perfect and hold its shape not turn to mush. This is perfect for any type of stir fry or even if you want to eat it with ayamashe that is ok too. Also I have had this with sambar too and omg it is to die for. Yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sambar is a spicy lentil soup with vegetables and it has a sister called rasam which is more like a broth type. and they are South Indian. Also you can cook the rice in an instant pot with the same ratio as stovetop method such as white rice for 10 minutes and either brown black or red Jasmine rice for between 15 to 20 minutes pressure cook on high and natural release only by putting a steam diverter until there is no more pressure left. Fluf with fork and continue.
