Actually I made some rib eye steak last night and it was outrageously good. It Was very nice thick and juicy. I went to my zabhiha halal butcher for this piece. New York strip and even t bone can be used too as well. The potatoes that I recommend highly is none other then Idaho brown russet potatoes.
It is 3 to 6 steaks and 6 or more of potatoes. This depends on how many people you have to feed. They can be cooked in the oven, stovetop or microwave. I cook the steaks on stovetop and oven only. Preheat oven to 400F to 200C for baking. Start the grill outside for grilling, broiler for broiling and stovetop start in a grill pan and finish cooking in a skillet so it can cook completely.
The methods for the potatoes are the same oven temp and wrap each one in aluminum foil then place them on the oven rack to cook for 30 minutes or until done. They can also go in to the microwave in a microwave safe steamer for 10 minutes. This depends on your microwave. Steak is cooked in a cast iron skillet in oven and place aluminum foil over the top. Cook the steak for 10 minutes on each side while turning each time or until done. Or you can finish cooking the meat on the stove or oven or stovetop after you grilled it outside or on a grill pan or simply broil it. If baking or cooking on stovetop please reserve the juice for later.
The seasoning ingredients are and this is all optional because not everyone wants to eat their steak the same way. They are either 3 shakes each of seasoned salt, vegtea seasoning, pink salt or lemon pepper, 2 to 5 cloves of garlic crushed and smeared all over the steaks, the condiments like 1 drop of hot chili sauce for that extra kick, 3 dashes each of either worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, balsamic vinegar or maggi or knorr aroma, mixed Italian herbs and 1 pinch of black peppercorns ground in to a coarse powder. The Italian mixed herbs are 1 pinch each of thyme rosemary, marjoram, basil and oregano.
My youngest daughter loves lemon pepper on hers and I made her steak first. Then for Mr. Riaz’s and my steaks I added the lemon pepper, wocestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, the aroma and black pepper I had crushed.
Since it was so hot I chose to cook on so it can get all of those lovely grill marks on the steak then I finished cooking them on low heat and turning frequently the entire time that I have been cooking them. I made the baked potatoes in the microwave. I sprayed the grill pan with cooking spray before I added my steak that I had seasoned. You can add 4 tbs of olive oil too if you wish but I went ahead with the cooking spray because my youngest is not fond of olive oil. Also if you wish you can add 3 pats of butter too.
The trimmings part and mushroom gravy:
The steak had quite a bit of juice left over from me cooking it that I added just 1 onion and cut it in half moon slices ad let it turn brown I removed it and set it aside because my daughter wanted some with her steak. I had a package of mushrooms. You can use any type that you prefer. For me I was in a mood for portobello mushrooms. I have broken it in to tiny pieces. I sauted them until they were soft and starting to change color.
What I meant is that they get a little darker. I added tsbs of corn starch in to 2 cups of water to make a slurry then I added it to the mushrooms and stirred. I Readded the onions back to the skillet with the mushroom mixture and added another 2 cups of water and cooked it until it got thick. Cook this on low heat.
I added this gravy to my steak and baked potato as you see from the picture. Mr. Riaz just had steak and salad. Sorry he was very hungry and couldn’t wait for me to take a picture of his plate because he was starving.
Enjoy.
