Tada, this is my sushi bowl I have mentioned in the past couple of posts. My pickled ginger and wasabi paste is sitting right behind it because this is a serving suggestion. I am going to explain how I did my wasabi paste in a bit. These pretty much you can get at an Asian store. Asian stores sells anything that is Asian including Japanese items. Besides I have cut my sushi expenditures in half because I don’t have to go to a sushi joint anymore unless I really wanted to and I am being lazy and had the money.
I asked Mr. Riaz how much would this be if I got this in a restuarant. He said 15 bucks. He is right on the money about this. Now i can enjoy sushi without all of the expence which is I am paying for their labor mostly.
First thing first we need the last recipe < the link pointing left and already cooled before whe can start doing any type of sushi making. I don’t have anything I can roll and make sushi with yet but I seen a recipe for sushi bowl and I want to try it out myself and It is so easy. Any type of canned fish can be used like sardines, cod livers, sprats which looks smaller then a sardine, crab meat, mackeral, tuna, salmon, oysters’s, clams, mussles, octopus, squid, etc just as long they are in brine that is drained or in oil.
Sorry no fish in tomato sauce does not cut it for this recipe. It is like telling Charlie the tuna in the Starkist commercial if anyone remembers that Starkist wants tuna with good tastes and says “sorry Charlie.” Loooool, this was hillarious and we had funny commercials back in the day. All types of smoked fish and even immitation crab which I used are great choices too.
Immitation crab actually is made from Alaskan pollack which is very similar to cod in taste. Shrimp must be cooked, If you are using raw shrimp, be sure to devein peel and cook them first before adding it to your sushi bowl, There are som already precooked as well to save you some time, To cook raw shrimp add 1 tsp of corn oil and swish it around the pan and add raw shrimp and cook it until it is pink and then you are ready for next steps
Second thing is prep your vegetables such as 4 baby carrots which come already peeled, 1 cucumber which peeling is optional, I never peel mine and 1 avocado that is ripe. Cut these in half and remove the pit and the skin from the avocado. slice vertically which means up and down. Those half moon slices must be cut again once more vertically.
They must resemble match sticks and set them aside. Take 1 sheet of nori which is the seaweed wrapper and cut them in to four equal pieces. First cut the nori in half and then cut the half pieces in half and please cut in the middle to make sure it covers a small bowl. This is enough for one sushi bowl.
Take one piece of the nori sheet and place it in the bottom of the bowl. Wet your hands under cold water and take 1 handful of sushi rice and mould it in to a circle and flatten it a little. Press this in to the bowl lined with the nori and spread the rice around until the nori is covered. Add 2 drops of tamari, your seafood of your choosing the firey orange sauce which is made of 1 tsp each of mayonnaise and sriracha, 2 drops of fish sauce which can be very salty so be careful when adding. Mix in a small bowl and add this or teriyaki sauce. this should be drizzled over the fish and rice over the nori.
Place the vegetables over this sparingly. The sauce can be also over the vegetables too as well. Repeat the process until all four small pieces of nori sheets are used up in the exact same manor. Number three is mix in a 1 tbs of wasabi powder with 1 tsp or enough water to make a paste. This is eaten along with pickled ginger and a little be more soy sauce, Actually I used tamari which is a Japanese soy sauce and wasabi is a Japanese horse radish.
Enjoy this with green tea which we call kawa or just plain black tea. I am so glad I now know how to make this yummy treat and now you can enjoy it as well.
