I remeber when I was a teenager in the group homes. There was one lady who I met when I was 14 years old. We became good friends right away and she was driving me to my music teacher’s house because sadly she had MS. I was taking piano lessons from my music teacher. However she got so ill she could’t teach me anymore and I gave up learning how to play piano.
She was a very sweet lady who the other lady who took me to her house for music lessons liked her a whole lot also and we always talked about her. Now after that I moved to my last group home where I had run away from later and this lady that drove me for music lessons and I still kept in touch. Every Thanksgiving and Christmas she made oyster stew. I said oh boy and yummy because she knew I really liked it. Hers was very basic and I seen another recipe where they had more stuff added to it and then from there Came up with mine at my first try at that.
Besides there different shools of thought in Islam regarding shellfish. Obiously I there is one school of thought that says everything in the ocean is halal. Hey do not get me wrong here whales and other mammals of the of the sea are off of my menu. However I am known to eat other crustations and other shellfish.
On high heat melt 3 pats of butter and add 1 oz of oil of corn, canola, sunflower, safflower, peanut or grapeseed. Finely chop 1 small onion or shallot, 2 cloves of garlic and cook until they become soft and the rawness goes away. In a mortar and pestle add 1 pinch each of celery seed and black peppercorns. Grind them in to a powder and add to onion mixture.
Add 1 pinch of red chili powder or 1 drop of hot pepper sauce, 3 dashes of lemon pepper, 1 pinch of either pink salt vegtea seasoning or seasoned salt, reduce heat to low and add 1 1/2 cup of milk. Stir and add 1 container and 1 can of smoked oysters in oil undrained. The flavor is in there even if you are using even the more expensive raw shucked oysters themselves that it is imperitive that you include the liquid because this is what gives it the flavor.
Actually this recipe is so perfectly basic and easy. Just let the oysters cook if you are using the raw ones and if you do what I just did is just a heat through for about 5 minutes and you are done. Serve this with crusty bread or oyster crackers. Believe me on this one it is mass enjoyment.
