After I got my instant pot duo crisp for my birthday present, I went to Amazon to buy accessories that I can use in it. Mr. Riaz was thinking I bought out the whole store judging from my order and simply wasn’t happy.
I told him I really needed it and I bought some baking accessories along with a dehydrater rack, egg bite moulds which I have already baked stuff in, a silicone steamer also.
Now I didn’t think the air would hit it in all directions while in the fryer basket that came with the cooker itself. Besides I am very well surprised about how my very first batch of dried fruit turned out. The verdict is yummy.
I took 2 to 3 apples and it can be any type. There are red delicious, golden delicious, mackintosh, granny smith, etc. I washed these very well and there are several ways to cut these apples.
Do not peel these apples. They are left unpeeled. they can be cut in to medium sized chunks, slighty on the thick side of either half moon slices or round slices even. To make the chunks is cut the apples in half then the slightly thick half moon slices and cut these in to 2 or 3 big pieces depending on the size of the apple.
Add them to a bowl with a lid then add 1 capful of lemon juice to keep it from turning brown.
Either shake or mix with hands to make sure the lemon juice hits every piece of fruit.
Arrange on the food dehydrater racks and place in the instant pot and the like. Place the air fryer lid on top, select dehydrate, set temp for 165F which is max dehydration temp and select time for 6 hours.
When I tasted these they were amazing and not rubbery at all like store bought dehydrated apple rings. They was even sweeter without me having to put sugar on it.
Actually there is absolutely no need for it. So you see commercially prepared dried fruits has a lot of excess sugar and sulphates. This is a lot healthier and makes a perfect snack especially on the go.
They can be easily used in pancake/waffle batter as well as being turned in to muffins and cakes, combined with other dried fruits and nuts to make your own trail mix, added to granola or even in to hot or cold cereal.
If you get a chance please try this out yourself and all you need is patience and time for it to turn out amazing.
