I remember the first time I ate banana flowers and ate them straight out of a can. Obviosly they were bland as hell and it has been many years since and now older and wiser I know how to turn it in to a yummy dish and several blogger’s posts I looked at gave me an idea on what to do and this is the veg and the non veg options for this recipe. For the non veg keema (mince) add 1/4 of a cup. It can be either Boka or Morning Star Farm for the frozen bagged kind or the dry kind by Auguson Farms. This you can buy on either Amazon or Walmart. The Auguson Farms has the veggie beef or veggie chicken kind of keema: just to let you know. Add this required amount to a large cereal bowl and add this to 2 cups of boiling hot water that has been heated up in the microwave for 1 minute or put on a tea kettle and when it whistles remove from heat and add the water over the dehydrated veggie keema to the bowl and let it sit for at least an hour in a covered bowl. The dried veggie keema should absorb all of the water. Set this aside.
In a wok add 1/4 cup of either corn, canola or vegetable oil on high heat also add 1 drop of sesame oil. Open 1 can of banana flowers drained and rinsed, 5 cloves of garlic and 1 small piece of ginger chopped. Chop 3 green onions. Add the seasonings such as either 1 lime leaf. 2 pices of lemon grass or 2 curry leaves with either 1 pinch of the variations of sea salt or plain sea salt, kosher salt, pink salt, adobo, vegtea seasoning, seasoned salt, kosher salt, bullion powder or 1 bullion cube. Add 1 pinch of msg, 3 dashes of maggi or knorr aroma, either 2 pinches of small dried shrimp, 1 tsp of fish sauce, 1 drop of oyster sauce, shrimp paste or crab paste,
Either 1 tsp of soy sauce, tamari, dark soy sauce, stir fry sauce then add the banana flowers if you wish you can leave them plain or add the veggie keema or for carnivoures and omnivoures the non veg items are 1 kg or 1 lb of keema of chicken, beef, turkey, lamb, goat or veal. Also 1 can of zabiha lunchmeat or 1 can of any type of canned fish near the end or fresh or frozen thawed fish or shrimp can be used too, can be used too with either 6 fresh quail eggs boiled for 15 minutes cooled and peeled or 1 can of quail eggs drained and rinsed. Add either 1 tsp of black Chinese vinegar, lychee vinegar, rice vinegar or cane vinegar. If you want fresh or frozen thawed fish be sure you fry it then add it to the banana flowers when it is done and season with the spices listed above. For chunks of meat I suggest 1 lb or 1 kg of either beef, chicken breast, veal, lamb or goat cut in tiny pieces and cooked also before the banana flowers are added.
Vegans you can use just the maggi or knorr aroma and the msg to get your unami and don’t add any of the small dried shrimp, oyster sauce fish sauce, crab paste and shrimp paste to make this work to your advantage. That is it for now and Please let me know in the comments on how you love my recipe and please do not forget to check out my fan page in Facebook and my group based on my blog Benazir’s blog a cooking guide and my Instagram page too I am benazirs_blog_ so see you there.
