This fish curry is for every type of fish. I made the fish masala recipe seperate on purpose because I want to show you how it really looks like when it is done. However this is for the fish curry only and not for fried fish.
Pakstani Fish Masala Spice Mix
First make this spice mix from the recipe from the link above.
I added 1/4 cup of olive oil to a pot and cook this fish in the oil until the fish is opaque and firm. I used catfish for this recipe as you can tell. However it is vital this way so the pieces of fish remain in tact and will not break a part and scatter. Remove the fish and place it on the plate and set it aside carefully. The flame should be on medium low heat.
Cut 1 onion or 1 shallot in to half moon slices and fry until golden brown. Wash and peal 1 small piece of ginger and 3 cloves of garlic and grind them in the mortar and pestle. Add these to the pot, the feshly made fish masala, 1 pinch each of turmeric and red chili powder and stirr. Add 1 green chili cut in small pieces and 1 tomato finally chopped.
Cover the pot and bring the heat to low and keep stirring every 2 minutes until the tomato is cooked and mushy.
After this a nice curry will develop then the fish can be added back to the pot. Add 4 tbs of lemon or lime juice, stir and let cook for 5 minutes.
This can be served over rice or with naan.
