Oh my God Lassi!!!!!! Yummy lassi!!!!! I can’t get enough of lassi like I can’t get enough of fish. However there is no way anyone can eat fish after they drank some lassi and vice versa because it causes disruptions with your stomach. That combo does not go well together at all all. I learned this from my mother in law and since she was an old lady that I took this very seriously. It is not something to be questioned.
Lassi is a very refreshing drink that is widely drunk in the Indian sub continant, meaning India, Pakistan and Bangladesh. Lassi is an Urdu word for a yogurt drink. It is also drunk in Turkey and The Arabic speaking countries too. The turkish call it ayran and the Arabs calls it laban. It is also drunk in Afganistan too and they call it by a Farsi name called dogh. So this post is about lassi and its variants today.
I added 1/2 cup of yogurt to my container that came with my immersion blender and added 1 cup of cold water. I blended it till it was smooth. From here I gave it to Mr Riaz. It is very similar on how to make a smoothie almost.
If you want it salty then add 1 pinch of pink salt or if you want it sweet add 1 tsp of either or turbinado sugar, honey, or agave nectar. There is the aam ki (mango) lassi variant.
For aam (mango) ki lassi take 1 fresh ripe mango and cut all of the pulp from the seeds and the skin of the fruit. I put this in the container that came with my immersion blender. Add 1/2 cup of plain yogurt and 1 cup of water. Do not addd sugar or any sweetener because this is already sweet and blend until smooth.
The Turkish and Arabs also add just salt and blend and they put in a glass full of ice. Just like Indians and Pakistanis.
The dogh from Afghanistan is very minty because it has mint in it. It is 1/2 cup of yogurt added to the blender followed by 1 cup of water, 1 small cucumber chopped and 1 pinch of mint and blend.
Now you are ready to enjoy this and it is so yummy and hard to put down.
