Actually sprats pate is one of my favorite things to eat. It comes from Baltic states like Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania.
They were under control of the former USSR which was formed in 1917 after the Russian revolution. They gained independence and became free after paristoyka. This is when the Iron Curtain in Europe fell.
Sprats are tiny fish almost like a sardine or a smelt. Oh my God!!! They are so tasty.
It starts with 4 slices of bread of choice that is put in a toaster and toasted.
When toast is done add mayonnaise and or mustard to the bread. Smear this with 2 heaping teaspoons of this pate. There is enough in the can for all 4 open faced sandwiches.
You will need 4 slices of cheese of choice to place on top of these sandwiches.
If you want you can add 1 drop of hot sauce to the sandwiches before placing the cheese.
Pop in to the microwave for 30 seconds and repeat for 20 seconds or until cheese has melted.
Serve this with pickles, olives, and chips. Also sparkling water like perrier or lacrois is a great option too.
I was eating pickled turnips with these sandwiches and also you can add a drop of vinegar of choice too is also optional. Last but not least try 1 small pinch of herbs of choice also.
