One thing I hate to do is to dwell on my illness. Mr. Riaz took me to my primary physision yesterday and low and behold at Ramadan time that I end up feeling sick again. I hate having bronchitis in the worst way. With me being an asthmatic it is definatly a given.
I also broke down and got some ready made two containers of pepper soup spice. Only if Old World Market here in Chicago had some ehru or calabash nutmeg, I would not have to buy a store bought. However to liven it up a little I added 1 small piece of uda, 1 pinch of uziza seeds and 1 pice of allegator pepper to liven it up a little bit and set it aside. I added 1 added 1 pinch each of thyme sent leaves or basil utazi leaves bitterleaf and or uziza leaves.
I set 1 quart or 1 liter of water to boil, I added 1 tsb of palm oil, 1 chopped clove of garlic, 1 small piece of ginger peeled washed and chopped, 1 onion,1 shallot or 2 big green onions cut in small pieces, 1 1/2 tsp of ready made pepper soup spice including what I had in the mortar and pestle, 1 pinch of crayfish, 1 small marble size of tamerind, 3 pieces of lemon grass and 3 dashes of maggi or knorr aroma.
The noodles can be any flavor but if they are not the spicy one then no need to add extra chili. Mr. Riaz is not a fan of super hot food like I am. If you use the one that does not have added chili then add chili powder or 1 habenero or scotch bonnet deseeded.
Open the bag of noodles and add the seasoned packet plus the noodles and boil until soft. this would take at least about 5 to 6 minutes or until soft . Add your choice of canned sardines, octopus or squid including the oil for extra flavor and turn the stove off and cover for 5 minutes and then eat. The canned fish in tomato sauce can be used too as well.
However this helps me a lot and it is making me sweat like crazy and therefore I need this. Oops thank God for my brains and inshallah I can regain my health so I can fast. Also Allah is very forgiving.
P.S. I got some ehru seeds finally allhumdullah. Cut 1/2 and put half piece in mortar and pestle along with uda, uziza seeds, etc. and add it to your pepper soup.
