Sugar Free Fruit Crisp

Hey folks I know you have seen this on my Facebook feeds and wonder when are you going to have this recipe, right? Ok I am deeply sorry I kept you in suspence long enough and I am going to show you how I made this. First of all you will need to wash whatever type of fruit that you want to use to make this and any type of fruit can be used to make this amazing desert. Only raisins dates and figs which are dry but if using these then be careful not to make this too sweet. Fresh figs you have to use and and also dried prunes and apricots are great too. If using dried dates and prunes, please make sure you buy the pitted ones just to save your time and hassle from having to remove the pits.
If using pears, apples and quince be sure that you remove the core and the seeds first and make sure you do not have the majority of these fruits in the compost heap or the trashcan. Wash and cut the fruit in half and cut the halves in half so you have easy removal of the core without having to sacrifice the fruit in the process. Mangoes have to be soft and ripe and cut in half and srape the fruit from the pit and the mango peel itself. Cherries needs to be washed and pitted. Blueberries, blackberries and rasberries are problem ftee and they can remain whole, Strawberries and rhubarb stalks have to be sliced before using along with bananas that need to be peeled first. Pineapples needs to have the top and the bark removed before cutting it in to chunks. Save pineapple bark for making zobo later.
Peaches, nectarines and fresh apircots need to be cut in half and have their pits removed after washing. Please wash your fresh fruit first. You can either mix or match by using any 2 or more types of fruit together such as a mixed berry would be a combo of blueberry, rasberry, blackberry, strawberry and or cherry. Guava is another option too and you can mix any one of these with dried fruit to make it sweet too.
For the spices used in this fruit crisp add to a mortar and pestle 1 clove, 2 allspice berries, 1 strand of mace, 1 broken piece of cinnamon stick to grind in to a coarse powder then great a little bit of nutmeg. Measure your choice of fruit that you will need by adding enough fruit to make 1 cup of fruit if using fresh only. The dried fruit you will only need about 10 pieces for dates, figs, prunes and dried apricots. Otherwise it would be 1/4 cup of raisins. Add 1 capful of lemon juice to all of them and set these aside. In a large mixing bowl add 1/2 cup of raw oatmeal and all purpose unbleached flour. If using dried fruit then proceed with caution. You do not want an overly sweet fruit crisp. Take 4 pats of butter or 3 tbs of butter ghee and add to the oatmeal mixture then add your contents from mortar and pestle. Here you can take a pastry blender or cutter to mix the dry ingredients with the butter or butter ghee. They sell them in Walmart, Target, Amazon and Ebay. I was lucky to find mine cheap at a dollar store here in Chicago. If you are lucky you will find great finds there too so this is also an option. It still works great.
It has to be crumbly then you can add 4 tbs of either agave nectar, sugar free syrup, maple syrup which is the real Mccoy and not some phony cheap imitation which is loaded with sugar. The real one is sold in a lot of Whole Foods Market. This one you have to refridgerate after opening to prevent it from going bad and it says so on the bottle. It is a little steep but worth it. Also if you do not want to add this then you can use 4 packets of stevia or 6 tbs of monk fruit sweetener, palm sugar also called coconut sugar or turbindano sugar. This time mix with a large wooden spoon and add your fruit of choice and mix some more.
Here you take either a cast iron skillet which will be ideal for regular oven temp set at 400F or 200C or a standard metal baking dish like a cake or a loaf pan depending on what you have on hand or in the instant pot in a instant pot comapatible baking utinsel lined with parchment paper that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Spread this fruit mixture all over with whatever you are using. For oven it is for 15 to 20 minutes. If making it in an instant pot then place the trivet inside the inner lining and use pot in pot method and place the parchment paper lined baking utinsel filled with the fruit and oat mixture and place the air fryer lid on top of the instant pot and select bake for 15 minutes. If it still is a little raw then you can cook it for an additional 5 minutes and remove from oven and turn oven off for oven method. For instant pot method just be very careful handling this because it is extremely hot.
You can serve this up with sugar free ice cream which is a slightly older post of mine or you can top it off with sugar free whipped cream which I am planing on doing in a future post Inshallah so stay tuned for that. You can also serve it hot or cold and it is your choice and of course enjoy it with a slice of cheese too if you wish. Ah and do not forget the coffee.
