Horsegram Rasam

Actually this is an archive picture that I had in facebook and we tackled the poha dosa in a dosa post because there are many ways to make dosas. Check this post for the recipe and there is one for gobi which means cauliflower in Urdu. This was my dinner I think. Every time I make something for this blog that it ends up being Mr. Riaz’s and my dinner. So If you have any more request recipes please let me know and it has to be zabiha halal. I don’t mind vegan or vegetarian dishes also. I looked up the recipes for these and pinned them in to my pintrest as recipes to try on which I made boards. The gobi I pretty much know how to make but I wanted a refresher on which masala to use. I stopped using powdered ready made masala blends because they are not fresh and do not taste right.
You will need to look at the 4th and 5th paragraphs of My Mixed Dal Rasam recipe and make the rasam masala first to get started. Turn on the instant pot on saute function and let it get hot and add 1 tbs of coconut oil. 3 curry leaves 1 pinch each of hing, whole chana ki dal and urad ki dal and roast these then add 1 pinch each of mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds and let crackle. Add the rasam masla from the mortar and pestle which is just only for single use only. Crush 1 Kashmiri chili and add to the instant pot, stir and add 1 pinch each of turbidano sugar, pink salt turmeric, red chili powder, tamarind, 1 tomato chopped and let cook until it becomes mushy.
Add 1 cup of horsegram washed and soaked in water for 3 hours. Stir to combine it with the masala then press cancel just in case the cooker does not shut off on time. Add 1 liter or 1 quart of water and place the pressure cooker lid on top of the instant pot and select it to sealing position. Select pressure cook setting and toggle this between high and low and you want it on high and select time for 20 minutes. From here you can walk away and do something else in the house and then you would here a jingle to tell you time is up and it shuts off. Use a steam diverter and press the quick release button. Whwn the pressure is gone then you can open the lid. if it still is a little hard then you can put one more cup of water in the rasam and repeat. The next time when you open the cooker after it is finished that you would get a very nice tasty bowl of horsgram rasam. This is great with vada, dosa and idl. Enjoy!!!!!
