Super Yummy Steak Rice And Gravy

This is one of my most favorite dishes ever. Steak rice and gravy is similar to smothered steak but we will do a smothered steak recipe soon Inshallah. I learned about this dish when I was in my 20s. I made it for my kids and myself and this is a comfort food to me and it is not something I would indulge because of me being a diabetic. I still have to exersise common sence. Plain Jasmine Rice Etc. is required for making the rice.
In either a wok or a cast iron skillet add 3 pats of butter and or 2 tbs of either vegetable oil, corn oil or canola oil. I added the butter. Add 1 onion or shallot cut in to half moon slices and cook until it is brown. Take 2 large flat steaks cube steaks or skirt steaks and cut them in half. Pound them with a meat mallet on both sides.
Take the steaks and place them in to a bowl with a lid after removing the lids themselves. Add 1 pinch of meat tenderizer, 1 pinch of peppercorns that has been ground in mortar and pestle, 3 dashes each of mrs dash, seasoned salt, worcestershire sauce, 1 drop of hot sauce, 1 capful of either cane vinegar, white vinegar, apple cider vinegar or malt vinegar, maggi or knorr aroma, rub this all over the steaks.
Add 3 tsps of all purpose unbleached flour if using then pop that in to a fridge. However if you want to coat the steaks with flour or not it is totally up to you. Close the lid on the on the steaks and shake it up to coat the steakes. In a wok or cast iron skillet add 3 pats of butter and or 2 tbs of either corn, canola, or vegetable oil on high heat. Add 1 onion or shallot cut in to half moon slices and brown them then remove and set aside on a plate.
Add the required amount of butter and or oil. This time again I added butter. Take 2 pieces of the steak weather you dusted them with flour or not and cook until they are brown. Take and remove this to the plate. Take 2 cloves of garlic and brown and remove to the plate as well.
This time I added both butter and the oil add 3 tbs of all purpose unbleached flour and 3 dashes each of seasoned salt and mrs dash. This gets made in to a roux which is a great base for a gravy. Reduce heat to low and cook until the roux turns dark then add 1 quart or 1 liter of water. Add it to the the roux and stir until it is lump free. Add a little more water and then stir again and add the steaks, the grilled onions and fried garlic. Make sure the steaks are submerged in to the gravy and this is wonderful to add to the rice too. Eating plain rice without gravy is not so nice and tasty. I got to have gravy on my rice.
You can eat this on mashed potatoes or even egg noodles for a variation instead of rice. You can eat the gravy on grits too if you want or eat with cornbread. But seriously I prefer rice with my steak and gravy. I hope you enjoy this recipe and please watch the ads to completion so I can get paid. Also you can use my payment options to pay money in to my paypal and donate to my site. I need money to buy my groceries this blog is how I make money this is my job now. For the steamed veg of choice you can add 1 half bag of frozen veg or 1 bag of fresh veg of choice. Peel carrots, or turnips or add brussels sprouts, cabbage, green beans, ect. put them in a steamer basket and place them in the instant pot. Put 1 quart or 1 liter in the instant pot and steam them for 20 minutes. Use external timer and then turn off the the instant pot. Unplug and again set for 20 minutes and the veggies are well steamed. This will round out your meal and make it more nutritious.
