Candied Yams Also Known As Candied Sweets Or Candied Sweet Potatoes
Here is an old archive picture that came to my attention that I had missed an archive picture and this is a dish I made a long time ago. I had made it with crowder peas and smoked turkey and I did a crowder peas recipe already for this blog.
In a mortar and pestle add 1 strand of mace, 1 broken piece of cinnamon stick and grind in to a coarse powder. Grate a little nutmeg and mix it up a little and set this aside.
Peel wash and quarter 2 large sweet potatoes. Add 2 cups of water and 3 pats of butter. Place them in to a medium coldero and set them on a stove to cook on low heat for 30 minutes or until they are soft but not mushy. Add the contents of the mortar and pestle and 1/4 cup of either agave nectar or sugar free syrup. The sugar free syrup you can buy at a Middle Eastern grocery store. The name is called Zayed Brothers. Cook for 10 more minutes. There should be a good deal of syrup in the sweet potatoes.
This is a side dish and not the main dish. You can enjoy this with beans or greens and perhaps some barbecue beef ribs or barbecue chicken. Enjoy.
